How long has Ralph Jones Home Plans been around?

We have been a custom home design business since 1964, which means we have been in business for 50 years.

Do you have any social media I can follow?

Yes, we have a Facebook. Along with that, if you would like to see reviews we have a Yelp, Porch, and Houzz profile.

Are you appointment only?

Yes, we offer free in-office consultations to discuss your custom home design.

What are stock plans?

Stock plans are plans that have already been created and are the first step of customization. We carry hundreds of stock plans, organized by square feet. You can either click view home plans and go through the tabs or use the drop-down menu.

Do you customize already pre-drawn plans?

Yes, creating your dream home is important for us. If one of our pre-drawn custom home designs needs a few tweaks to be perfect, let us know! We will be happy to work with you and create a place you'll love coming home to.

What are the minimum and maximum square feet for a design?

Although we only have 800 sq ft to 7400 sqft on the site, we create plans from 400 sq ft to 10,000 sqft.

What is your starting price?

For a project, it can range from $1,000 to $12,000. Our pre-stocked designs are on the cheaper spectrum, with or without customization. Custom home designs and small commercial buildings are on the upper end of our price range.

What is the average time frame for designing and building a custom home?

It can take two to three months to design a home and then another six months of building. Although it can take up to a year.

Is the process of designing a custom home complicated?

Not at all! We encourage custom home plans when our stock plans require too many changes or you, the client, simply have a great idea that you need help executing. When you choose us we will guide you every step of the way in designing your custom home.

Do I have to have a lot or have purchased a lot before designing a custom home?

Whether you inherited a lot, bought one, or are still shopping around we can design a home for you.

What if I need TWO Master Suites with an attached Salon Bath and a Walk-In closet?

A “Master Suite” (or the new term “Primary Suite”) is defined as having the following items:

  • A large size bedroom, larger than secondary bedrooms as a rule.
  • A private bathroom dedicated to only this bedroom.
  • This bathroom will be called a “SALON BATH” if it has a separate Tub and Shower, in most cases, but occasionally, due to an oversized arrangement of this room, it may not have a separate tub/shower.
  • Generally, there are at least one, if not two separate walk-in closets, though some older plans do not include this.

Not every plan in the “Two Master Suites” folder will have two complete Master Suites, but some simple additions like adding a door, or the closing of a door, to separate a secondary bedroom and bath unto itself, will create a new Master Suite to suit your family’s needs.

What are the benefits of creating a unique home?

Creating a personalized home has numerous benefits to it.

  1. Functionality: eliminate unused spaces/space, mold rooms to your lifestyle, have an open floor plan, or defined room, have the number of bedrooms and bathrooms that your family and guests need, and add on large closets, his and her sinks, and more.
  2. Unique floor plan:  whether for practical lifestyle reasons or just cause, you can choose or create a floor plan you could never buy in a cookie-cutter home.
  3. Budget control:  lots of people think a custom home will be more expensive, but being able to choose materials, finish, and other choices can actually keep costs lowers or around the same as buying a pre-made home.
  4. No need for repairs or replacements anytime soon so less future hassles and costs. You also won't have to worry about repainting or carpeting any of the rooms.
  5. Expression: whether you're artistic or always wanted a cabin in the woods, you got it. You can choose a lot exactly where you might want to live as well, whether in a certain suburb or wooded area.
  6. Material choice/quality: whether you want a certain kind of wood, metal finish, or a certain quality of materials used to build your home.
  7. Privacy: if you are a private person, you can achieve the highest level of privacy when customizing your house, an amount of privacy you might find difficult to get in pre-built homes.
  8. Optimization: customization can help you optimize things that matter to you like airflow, tree foliage and natural light from windows, etc.

Why can’t I print my own Blueprints in my shop or at a local printer?

We do not allow others to print out full-size blueprints using a PDF file due to Quality Control and Copyright issues. We require that all full-size blueprints be printed in our facility. PDF digital prints, should you choose to purchase those, may be printed, however, they WILL NOT PRINT TO SCALE AND SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR CONSTRUCTION IN THE FIELD, but rather as reference copies only. Printed PDFs can be attached to a contract as a visual reminder of on-site change orders, or as a schedule for door & window purchases as well as cabinetry, flooring, and other fixture company contract for purchase addendums. You can even use a reduced print as a construction contract addendum with added notes for the builder to remember throughout construction, however, the full-size blueprints that will be used in the field for the carpenters to use to construct the house, plumbers, and electricians to use on-site, must be printed in our offices. We will sell you as many copies as you need to build each structure, but they all must be purchased through our office.
